A day in the life of a first year law student......

6:30am Alarm goes off, and is ignored
6:50 am Stumble out of bed into shower
6:50am-7:20am Shower, shave and get dressed
7:20am-7:40am Make lunch and eat breakfast
7:50am-8:30am Take R train to Brooklyn, while reading the New York Times
8:30am-9:00am Stop at Starbucks and get an iced quintuple venti vanilla latte
9:15am -11:00am Legal Writing. While professor goes over citation, check and recheck email, read CNN and BBC news , contemplate witty away messages, check all friends away messages--repeatedly in case they change….
11:00am-2:00pm Eat lunch, intend to go over civil procedure and read for criminal law, but chat with fellow socially starved 1L’s
2:00pm-4:00pm *fire drill…Civil Procedure: Removal from state courts. Listen intently; take notes and IM with fellow 1L’s and my sister upstate.
4: 15pm-5:00pm Take 5 train to Lexington and then R home keeping an eye out for suspicious packages.
5:00pm-9:00pm Starbucks again, another iced quintuple venti vanilla latte….read constitutional law for tomorrow
Pick up food for dinner
9:10pm-10:10pm treadmill and elliptical at NYSC
10:10pm-10:30pm “Dinner”
11:00pm-12:30am Reading criminal law for tomorrow
12:30am-??? Reading Phillip Roth in bed till sleep comes……..

You can pick up food for dinner and read for con law in a 4 hour time frame? Impressive.

It's bizarre. I can read con law in 2.5 hours, but it will take me 4.5 hours to do twelve citation excercies for legal writing. Mind you I havn't taken "reading notes" for last night's con law, that will happen today before class........perhaps that's why i doesn't seep to take me long to "read." I do all of my notes at another time.....

And yes I am awake at 5:30 am. Couldn't sleep....

If by reading notes you mean I highlight things in multiple colors and maybe scribble some notes on the margin if needed then maybe I too have my shit together.

I do the highlighting and margin writing as I'm reading and then type up notes off of that for class. I've found that doing this allows me to listen to what's going on in class, because I barely have to write down anything, or I can pare my notes down to what the prof. is talking about or surf the web........
