After handing it in, I would have been thrilled with a B. I was surprised when I opened the manila folder and seen that I had done better than I would have allowed myself to hope for. My professor found my writing "compelling," which is odd considering the nature of the assignment. A compelling memo ???
I won't be more specific than that.
Hope you did well if you're a 1L.
If not I found the key it to robotically follow your professor’s instructions and suggestions verbatim. I structured my sentences and paragraphs exactly as they where in the Shapo text and on her slide presentations.
Well, it's law school, and no advice is useful unless you have counter-advice. Robotically following instructions did NOT lead me to do well in legal writing. For the most part, I found that people who knew what they were doing and just kept doing it did better.
When I'm not reading cases, outlining, briefing or being grilled in class I enjoy reading, watching independent and foreign film, wandering around Manhattan or Brooklyn Heights, chilling in Astoria or drinking coffee...

Congrats on the memo!
